When my sister was a teenager, she made a pumpkin pie. It was her first pie, and she was very proud. But she left out one important ingredient – SALT. Have you ever had a pumpkin pie without salt? Agh – It’s terrible! Pumpkin pie without salt is not a pie – it’s a disaster!

Evolution tells us that all things came into being without God. Through the process of genetic mutations and natural selection, everything supposedly evolved. Theistic Evolutionists, on the other hand, say “No, God was the One who started it all; but then He allowed the evolutionary process to take its course. So, what you have is God and evolution.” Nice try, guys – but that’s not how it happened, either!

In the prologue of John’s Gospel, he tells us how it really happened. He says, “All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.” Now did you notice that God not only made all things? John is careful to say that nothing came into being without Him. In other words, the act of creation extends to everything. Nothing came into being by any other means!

The word, “without” carries the thought of “separation – in terms of space.” It comes from a word that means “empty expanse.”

Now the idea is that there is a separation of one thing from another. There is no involvement. So this adverb really means, “by itself, apart from – or without.” John, therefore, is saying that when God created all things, He was never uninvolved in what was going on. There was never a distance between Him and His creation. There was not one thing that came into existence that did not have His undivided attention and His direct involvement! “All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.”

Now you know the real meaning of the word.

Remember – Nothing happened by chance when the world came into being. Without God, it wouldn’t be!
