Truth in Grace Ministries was organized in 1998 as a communications ministry emphasizing the careful exposition of God’s Word within its Christocentric context for the purpose of edifying and encouraging God’s people. Truth in Grace was an outreach endeavor of Grace Church of West Ottawa in western Michigan, and highlighted the Bible teaching ministry of Dan Hayden, who at that time was the Pastor/Teacher of Grace Church.
The vision, simply stated, was to influence God’s people with the sufficiency of Scripture and the sufficiency of Christ for all matters of life and ministry. In essence, committed to the “solas” of Reformation truth — Scripture alone, Christ alone, grace alone, faith alone, and to the glory of God alone. The purpose of Truth in Grace was to communicate these truths.
Sola Scriptura (a non-profit ministry affiliated with The Scriptorium – a large private collection of ancient biblical manuscripts) in Grand Haven, Michigan provided production skills and facilities for Truth in Grace. A quarterly magazine (see the 11 issues below) was published and a tape ministry was started in 1998. Then, the A Word from the Word daily radio feature was launched in June 2000.
At the end of 2000, Truth in Grace combined forces with several ministries operating under the umbrella of the Grace Foundation that were committed to a common theme—Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone) as the foundation for truth. Resources were pooled for the purpose of refining the focus, and thirteen families relocated to Orlando, Florida. The collective ministry operated under the organizational title of Sola Scriptura until 2012.
