Are you willing or unwilling? Every day we exercise our wills in a hundred different ways. It is one of the important things about us as human beings. We have a will, and how we exercise it affects the quality of our lives.
Why is it that so many people are unwilling to come to Jesus for eternal life? In John 5:39-40 Jesus was talking to the religious leaders of Israel; and He said, “You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of me. And you are unwilling to come to me, that you may have life.” They were very religious, and they used the Bible in their religious experience. But they wouldn’t accept Jesus as their personal Savior from sin, and as their hope of eternal life.
Sounds like any number of sects and cults, doesn’t it? They use the Bible, but won’t admit that Jesus is the Savior. “Unwilling.” Actually, it’s the word “willing” with the word “not.” Not willing. No way! Absolutely not! I won’t do it. “Not willing.”
There are any number of reasons why people are unwilling to come to Jesus. They don’t understand who He really is. They’re too proud and independent to trust their salvation to Him. They like their sinful, selfish lifestyles. People are unwilling for a lot of reasons. But when it comes to eternal life in Christ, unwilling isn’t smart. Better to be willing and saved, than unwilling and lost.
Hey—how smart are you? Are you willing to come to Jesus for eternal life?
