Dr. Dan Hayden •

You have probably heard the saying, “One person plus God equals a majority.” Well, today we’re going to consider “Peace, plus God.” In other words, the peace that only God can give. Peace of God, that’s our word for today.

When we bring our anxious thoughts to God in an attitude of trust, then the peace of God will replace our worry.

Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

The peace of God is a divine kind of peace. Here the genitive case means that it is a peace that belongs to God and it is a peace you can only get from God. In other words, it’s His (He is the source). You see, the peace of God is an incredible peace, and only God can give it to you.

But what kind of peace is “the peace of God?” How does it differ form the peace of man? The peace of man is very circumstantial. If things are going well, and nobody is bothering you – you feel a sense of peace. But if things are not going well (trouble, agitation, criticism, hostility – you know – all of the things that stimulate an anxious spirit), then peace is scarce as a relative who owes you money. God’s peace on the other hand, is an inner peace – a peace you experience in spite of circumstances. It’s a settled confidence that God is in control of everything around you, and He will either resolve the problem, or He will give you the strength to meet it. Either way, He’s going to be there for you. So emotionally and mentally, you are at peace.

You have to go to God for the  “peace of God.” Let your requests be made know to God and the peace of God will keep you, that’s the way it works.

When God takes care of things, you can relax… it’s great!
