Dr. Dan Hayden •

So what are you anxious about? Well, whatever it is, you do know that worrying about it isn’t going to help – right? So, why do you worry? Let’s talk about that.

People worry about everything these days, but the Bible says you shouldn’t worry about anything. Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Actually the word that catches my attention is that word, nothing. “Be anxious for nothing.”

The English word and the Greek word have a lot in common here. It is the word “no” and the word “thing” put together – “no thing” – nothing. Someone has said that “nothing” is a zero with the rim knocked off, and that’s what the word really means. “Nothing.”

When you have nothing, then there’s nothing there. In this verse, the word “nothing” is in contrast to “…but in everything by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known to God.”

So here’s what you do: you take everything out of the worry pile so that there is nothing left, and you put it all (everything) in the I’ve given it to God pile. Now you do that when you pray and thank God that He’s going to take care of it for you. Then, there’s nothing left to be anxious about, and so you begin to experience a wonderful peace in the matter. You got the idea, “Be anxious for nothing.”

And remember, being anxious for nothing really means nothing. ■
