Dr. Dan Hayden •

It all happened in the twinkling of an eye; and before I knew it, it was over. Now that’s how God describes life – before you know it, it’s over.

In 2 Corinthians 4:17, Paul tells us how to get life into perspective by adopting an eternal view of things. He says, “For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison.”

Now did you notice how he talks about the troubles of life? He calls them momentary, light afflictions. Now there’s something to think about! Take all of the afflictions of life – the problems and troubles we face every day, and God says they are only a momentary thing, when compared to the “eternal weight of glory” which we will enjoy with God.

This word, “momentary” is a word that means “immediately, or briefly.” In other words, something that passes quickly – like a moment of time. So with regard to the matter of time, God says our afflictions are only momentary.

“But,” you say, “this suffering just keeps going on! It seems like it will never end…!” Well, God is not unconcerned about your affliction. But He does want you to get it into perspective. No matter how long your difficulty continues to last, compared to the eternal weight of glory, it is but a momentary thing.

Listen. In God’s perspective, eternity is everything. TIME is merely the preface to the story. It’s the vestibule to the building – the preliminaries to the game. TIME is merely the doorway to forever! So, remember: compared to eternity, our troubles are only momentary afflictions producing for us an eternal weight of glory.

Hey, before you know it – it will all be over – and heaven with God will be incredible – FOREVER!
