Did you know that love has four dimensions?
Love is a common word, isn’t it? But you have to admit it’s an increasingly uncommon experience. So, what is love anyway? Well, real love is sacrificing oneself for someone else.
In Ephesians 3:18, Paul prays that believers in Christ would know the breadth, and length, and depth, and height of God’s love. Did you notice – God’s love has four dimensions?
The story is told of a French pastor imprisoned during the French Revolution. He died in that dungeon cell. But when his captors were removing his lifeless body, they noticed words scratched into the wall around a slender cross-shaped window. Above the cross was the word “height.” Below the cross was the word “depth”, and on either side of the cross the words, “length” and “breadth.” The cross – that’s God’s demonstration of four-dimensional love.
Well, nowhere is that love more beautifully expressed than in John 3:16: “For God so loved – that’s the height of love. “…So loved the world” – that’s the depth of love. “…That He gave His only begotten son” – that’s the length He was willing to go for you. “…That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” – what incredible breadth! It includes even you.
Now that’s real love – and it has four dimensions.
So, is your love four-dimensional?
