We live in a world of insecurities. Everybody is nervous because nothing is for sure. What we need is something we can count on—something that is not going to let us down.
Recently I witnessed another family tragedy—the husband and father of that home, walked away from his family. He abandoned them to pursue his own selfish desires, and the kids, as well as the wife, were devastated. The stability of their home was shattered. The security and protection of a loving father was gone. It was tragic, and devastating.
The good news, on the other hand, is that our heavenly Father will never do that to us. In a world of uncertainties, He is the one thing that is certain. In Psalm 100, the Psalmist says in verse five, “For the Lord is good; his lovingkindness is everlasting, and His faithfulness to all generations.”
This word “faithfulness” is a Hebrew word that means “firmness, security, fidelity, conscientiousness.” It comes from a root verb that means “to build up, or support; and hence—to make something firm or secure.”Actually, the words “faithfulness” or “trustworthiness” are good words to catch the idea here.
Our God is faithful and trustworthy, and the Psalmist says that is something for which we ought to be very thankful. Furthermore, His faithfulness goes on generation after generation. Now that’s really something to be thankful for!
Say—God will never walk out on you. You can count on Him to be there—always!
