Have you ever been left out? Everybody else got some, but you didn’t get any? Well, Christ won’t do that to those who love Him.
Jesus talked about His second coming in Matthew 16:27 and made this promise. He said, “For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and will then recompense every man according to his deeds.”
Every man is a single word in the Greek text and emphasizes the individual nature of things. It could be translated, each person or every one. In other words, when Jesus comes each and every person will give an account of their deeds.
Paul put it this way in 2 Corinthians 5:10, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”
Now, that’s good news for those who truly love the Lord. Each and every one will be included in His commendations. But, that is not such good news for those who have simply served themselves and have not loved the Lord. There is not one person who will not be included in the evaluation. You will give an account for how you have lived.
In the past, I have received awards for having done certain things well and I can attest that it is a good feeling. But, I have also been called on the carpet for things I did wrong and I can assure you, it is not a pleasant experience. The thing to notice here is that this is an evaluation given by Christ Himself, so everything is magnified one thousand fold. On that day you will desperately want commendation, not condemnation. “For the Son of Man… will then recompense every man according to his deeds.”
Hey, for better or for worse, you will be included in the evaluation. Think about that!
