How deep does your love go? Can you keep loving when things get tough?

In Ephesians 3:18, Paul encourages us to know something of the depth of love. Can you love the unlovely? Well, God does. The Bible says “For God so loved the world…” Now that’s rather incredible, especially when you realize that the world is so opposed to God.

On September 30, 1953, sixty-nine year old Professor Auguste Piccard and son Jacques dived 10,339 feet beneath the surface of the sea. Professor Piccard said, “Down in the depths there is a grave-like calm and stygian blackness… There was nothing to see. Even our powerful searchlight grayed away in the silent sunless darkness of the abyss.”

Well, in like fashion, approximately 2,000 years ago the Son of God left the brilliance of Heaven and plunged into the murky waters of the earth. Down – oh, so deep, and the blackness was incredible! Yet, He stayed, and loved those blind sinful creatures of the darkness. And He died—willingly died—for us, that we through faith in Him, might have eternal life. Oh, the depth of God’s love!
