When an NFL team wins the Super Bowl, they also win a lot of money. Every player gets a portion of the winnings. They divide it up. They all share in the spoils of victory.

When Jesus won the victory over Satan, sin, and death, He also won a lot of other things, too. In Isaiah 53:12 Isaiah describes the scene. He says, “Therefore I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the booty with the strong.” This is a reference to the second coming of Christ, when He will actually take possession of the earth and divide the spoils of victory with the saints.

The word “booty” is a Hebrew word that refers to the booty and spoils of war. One of the results of a military conflict is that there is booty.

In 1 Samuel 30 we read the story of David’s conquest over the Amalekites. Then in verse 26 it says, “Now when David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the spoil to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying, ‘Behold a gift for you from the spoil of the enemies of the Lord.’” Now this is what our Lord will do – He will share His winnings with us. So, what is the “booty” or spoils that He will distribute? Well, in Psalm 2:8 it says, “Ask of me and I will give you the nations for your inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.” The “booty” is the entire earth, and everything in it. That’s what He has won, and that’s what He will share.

You see, when Adam fell, Satan usurped authority over the earth (which is how he could offer to Jesus the kingdoms of the world in the Temptation). But Jesus defeated Satan, and the booty of victory is the earth. Now the Bible says that one day we will reign with Him. Therefore, we will share with Him in everything He has and does. Wow! That’s better than winning the lottery!
“He will divide the booty with the strong.”

Hey – don’t be impatient! One day – it will all be yours.
