“So—what do you think?” someone might ask you, “Do you have this religion stuff figured out?” “Well, I think so,” you reply. Think— that’s our word for today.
In John 5:39 Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life.” That’s what the religious leaders of Israel thought. They thought that the Scriptures themselves would give them eternal life.
This word “think” has the idea of considering something, supposing that something is true.
These religious leaders thought about it, and came to a conclusion. Unfortunately, they were wrong. Only Jesus can give you eternal life. In verses 39 and 40 Jesus went on to say, “and it is these (the Scriptures) that bear witness of me; and you are unwilling to come to me, that you may have eternal life.”
Do you realize that there are over 3,000 different sects and cults that think they are right? Yet every one of them refuses to come to Jesus as the only One who can save them and give to them eternal life. You’ve got to do more than think you’re right. You’ve got to know you’re right.
I John 5:13—“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.”
You get eternal life by believing in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Jesus Christ died for your sins that you, by faith in Him, might have eternal life. Think about it!
