Some time ago I saw a bumper sticker which said, Practice Random Acts of Kindness. I guess that means to be kind just because it’s a good thing to do… not a bad idea.

There is a Hebrew word in the Old Testament that expresses the wonder of God’s grace and mercy more than any other word. It is the Hebrew word Checed. Actually, it takes a lot of English words to catch the flavor of this one Hebrew word Checed. Ideas like love or kindness, benevolence, goodwill, favor, benefit, mercy, grace – it is a wonderful word to express God’s kindness to His people.

Now when the psalmist uses this word in Psalm 100 to express the character of God for which we need to be thankful, he says in verse 5:

For the LORD is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 100:5 NASB

Lovingkindness. Wow, what a wonderful God we have who thinks and acts toward us with Checed, with lovingkindness.

Now, did you notice that the psalmist said this characteristic of God is also everlasting? You see, if you are a child of God, He will never stop loving you and showering you with kindness. His lovingkindness is everlasting.

God isn’t just random in His acts of kindness. He is consistent – He does it all the time.
